volume zero

Doing architecture we constantly search for a language, a form. We try to draw something from our memory, from ecology, people!! From living and non living !!

Great architects created the built environment by their extraordinary and intuitive understanding of aspiration of people and cycle of nature.

They understood the deep – structure of the society in which they lived!!

Louis I Kahn, a master architect, used to call this kind of deep structure :

Volume zero’.

He would tell students that he had an 8 volume set of English history which he loved reading. And then he’d say : “ actually I’ve read only the first volume.”

Then he’d add : “ in fact, I’ve only read the first few pages” and then,

after pause : you know, I don’t think history started the way they say it did. I think it started before that.

I want to read volume zero”.
